U.S. crypto czar says Effective Altruists rebranded as China hawks after FTX collapse

David Sacks, White House AI & Crypto Czar, said on X that after the collapse of Sam Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of the now-defunct crypto exchange FTX, the Effective Altruism movement felt the need to rebrand. Now, they are trying to present themselves as “China hawks.” However, their main goal—to slow down technological progress—hasn’t changed. Sacks warned that if this agenda gains influence, it could cause the U.S. to fall behind China in the race for AI leadership.
