The suspected stolen assets include 6,850 osETH, 6,590 WETH, and 4,260 wstETH , all Token related to ETH Staking. Reviewing on-chain data, the attacker is in the process of pooling and merging the funds, raising concerns that they could soon be laundered through coin mixing protocols or transferred across cross-chain bridges to cover their tracks.
The protocol @Balancer appears to have been exploited — about $70.6M in assets was transferred out, including:

Chia to a moderator on Balancer's Discord channel, v2 pools were affected, while v3 is currently safe.

v3 pools should be safe https://t.co/iIWmN3nYIN pic.twitter.com/d5sjPemPJV
However, by now, the loss figure has rapidly increased to $116 million , Lookonchain found.

According to Defimon Signals, the cause of the incident is believed to be a faulty check in Balancer's smart contract. This vulnerability caused the system to mishandle transaction validation conditions, opening the way for attackers to siphon assets from the main vault.

GM.
Root cause (kudos to Defimon Signals) was a faulty check.
Still not clear what Balancer versions are affected, but not all of them. https://t.co/eVfRugvZlO pic.twitter.com/Ao6CkU0BFk
The incident quickly attracted a lot of attention in the DeFi community, as Balancer is one of the oldest and most reputable AMM protocols on the Ethereum network.
Many expressed deep concern about the severity of the incident. Balancer currently holds a large portion of the on-chain liquidation of many other protocols, notably AAVE, a leading lending platform that relies heavily on Balancer liquidation pools.
If confirmed as a hack, this would be the third major hack in Balancer's history , following two previous incidents in 2020 and 2023 that cost the project millions of dollars.
Currently, on-chain "detectives" are monitoring the hacker's wallet cluster, while the DeFi community awaits an official response from the Balancer team. Users who have interacted with Balancer and Balancer Fork protocols can immediately revoke their wallets.
Shortly after the news broke, Balancer’s BAL Token fell slightly by more than 4.4% over the past 24 hours and is currently hovering around $0.94.
