Japanese Bitcoin (BTC) company Metaplanet, a top corporate holder, continues its aggressive investment strategy by recently purchasing an additional 2,204 BTC. The total purchase scale amounts to $237 million (approximately 32.94 billion won).
Metaplanet announced this through a Japanese stock market disclosure on the 8th (local time). The average purchase price for the Bitcoin was 15,640,253 yen per coin, which is approximately $107,700 (about 149.57 million won). With this transaction, Metaplanet's total Bitcoin holdings increased to 15,555 BTC. The average purchase price was calculated at around $99,985 (about 138.97 million won).
According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET, which tracks Bitcoin holdings of companies, Metaplanet is currently the fifth-largest Bitcoin holder globally. Notably, at the end of June, it drew industry attention by surpassing Tesla's ($TSLA) 11,509 BTC holdings. At that time, Metaplanet purchased 1,234 BTC, bringing its total to 12,345 BTC and overtaking Tesla.
Subsequently, on June 30th, it made another large-scale purchase, exceeding CleanSpark's 12,502 BTC holdings. It added 1,005 BTC at that time, with the transaction amount reaching $108 million (approximately 150.1 billion won).
Amid significant Bitcoin price volatility, Metaplanet's aggressive portfolio expansion is evaluated as a representative example of a long-term holding strategy centered on institutional investors. This purchase is expected to intensify the Bitcoin share competition among global corporations.
