On June 18, Iran's top cryptocurrency exchange – Nobitex – became the target of a serious cyber attack. According to on-chain data, the incident led to a large cash flow being withdrawn from this platform on the TRON (TRX) network, with total estimated damages reaching $48.65 million.
Security experts revealed that hackers conducted a series of abnormal transactions to withdraw assets from wallets associated with Nobitex, with most of the funds transferred to anonymous wallet addresses to hide their tracks. The incident caused panic among users in Iran and the Middle East region, as Nobitex currently holds the largest market share domestically and plays a crucial role in the country's cryptocurrency ecosystem.
The attack occurred against the backdrop of centralized exchanges (CEX) in the region facing numerous challenges related to security and risk management. Currently, Nobitex has not yet issued any detailed official statement about the specific cause, attack method, or plans for aftermath recovery and user compensation.
