2 May 8, 2025, San Francisco, California - Space and Time , a Microsoft-backed blockchain for zero-knowledge (ZK) proof data, has launched its public, permissionless mainnet.
Space and Time aims to provide ZK proof data for smart contracts to power a new generation of data-driven cryptographic applications. It indexes data from other major blockchains, including Ethereum, and stores it in a decentralized network of database validators. Developers can use Proof of SQL , Space and Time’s sub-second ZK coprocessor designed for SQL database queries, to access, query, perform ZK proofs, and connect this data back to their smart contracts.
“Before Space and Time, on-chain applications could not query basic user data from blockchain activity databases without introducing security risks and tampering. In addition, enterprises could not securely connect their cloud databases to smart contracts,” said Scott Dykstra, #001 Contributor at Space and Time. “Today, we are excited to announce the launch of the Space and Time mainnet, which will enable developers to build sophisticated, data-driven on-chain applications that are secured by cryptographic proofs.”
Today’s smart contracts cannot natively access historical data, cross-chain data, or off-chain data, which limits the complexity of on-chain applications. Chainlink has pioneered external data access for smart contracts through secure oracles and cross-chain messaging, solving a key part of the context problem. The next wave of on-chain innovation — encompassing everything from dynamic financial instruments to data-rich AI agents and tokenized real-world systems — will require a trustless repository layer for complex data retrieval. Space and Time achieves this through a network of verifiable decentralized databases, allowing smart contracts to query the complete history of Ethereum and other chains.
Space and Time was created by MakeInfinite Labs , a cutting-edge protocol research lab backed by Microsoft and in partnership with major financial institutions. In addition to its work on Space and Time, the company has developed key technologies for the broader crypto ecosystem, such as Proof of SQL, Blitzar (an Elastic Network ZK Chain for Space and Time), and the Chainlink DeFi Yield Index .
“At MakeInfinite Labs, we’re focused on building the infrastructure to enable the next generation of crypto applications. Contributing core technologies like Proof of SQL and the original architecture of Space and Time is part of that vision,” said Nate Holiday, CEO of MakeInfinite Labs and co-founder of Space and Time. “We’re excited to see the ecosystem take this work forward and unlock new possibilities for verifiable, data-driven applications.”
Space and Time is secured by a decentralized set of validators, and anyone can contribute to the network by providing high-quality datasets, staking, or running a validator node.
