President Trump Confirms No Intention to Dismiss Fed Chairman Powell, Calls for US Federal Reserve to Quickly Lower Interest Rates.
On April 23 (local time), during the swearing-in ceremony of US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Paul Atkins, US President Donald Trump stated that he has no intention of dismissing Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Jerome Powell, despite expressing disappointment that the Fed has not lowered interest rates as quickly as expected.
Responding to reporters, Trump emphasized:
"Never. The media always complicates everything. I have no plans to dismiss him. I just want him to be more proactive in cutting interest rates."
The US President argued that grocery prices have decreased, everything is trending downward, and interest rates are the only factor that has not decreased much nor increased significantly.
Trump continued to assert that now is an ideal time for the Fed to lower interest rates, emphasizing his desire for Chairman Jerome Powell to act "early or on time" rather than being delayed. Additionally, he noted that the stock market is showing positive developments, thereby further reinforcing his argument for the need for a more flexible monetary policy to support economic growth.
