I am Ray.bit from Bit, a man passionate about Bitcoin and with technical insights, X (Twitter):https://x.com/bitlaser_btc
Recently, my phone is filled with various AI news, making me dizzy, especially the "Model Context Protocol" (MCP), which I didn't understand at all. I didn't want to continue crying over my AI concept coins, $GOAT, $AI16Z, $ACT, which have cost me so much money. So, I used my big brain to thoroughly research MCP. Guess what? I really understood it. No wonder @cz_binance talks about it like this. AI focuses on practicality. Previously, AI was basically still at the level of dialogue, automatic tweeting, and underlying technical support, which are completely useless to us. It turns out that MCP is the future of AI.
Now, I will present the results of my three-day, non-stop research to all the married and unmarried brothers and sisters, trying to make it understandable even for grandpas who are just starting kindergarten.
I. What is MCP? The "Universal Plug" of the AI World
On November 25, 2024, an AI company called Anthropic @AnthropicAI (developers of the Claude intelligent model) launched MCP. Simply put, MCP is like a "universal plug" that allows AI to easily connect to external data and tools, such as company reports, website content, WEB3 wallets, and even the calendar on your phone.
Imagine your grandfather asking the smart speaker: "What do I have planned today?" But the speaker can't understand the calendar and can only respond: "I have no idea what you're talking about." With MCP, it would jump out and "translate": "You promised ETH yesterday morning to take her for soybean milk, and the carriage is ready" (just joking, don't take it literally), allowing AI to directly find the answer.
Your grandfather then says, "Speaking of ETH, help me buy eight ETH from the wallet," and the wallet actually helps grandpa buy it. AI not only talks but also gets things done, which is better than some XX, just that amazing. Previously, AI needed to write a lot of complex code to connect to this data. Now, with MCP, developers just need to plug in this "plug" to make AI smarter and more considerate.
Anthropic says MCP is open-source, and anyone can use it for free, even improve it. This excites many programmers who think it might become the "standard configuration" of AI's future.
Tip 1: MCP is like giving AI a "second brain" to understand more data.
II. How Did MCP Appear? The Story Starts from the AI Boom of 2023
To understand why MCP is so important, let's talk about the AI explosion of 2023. That year, OpenAI's ChatGPT became popular, and the whole world was using AI to write articles, draw, and chat. But problems arose: Although AI is smart, it can't see the data in your hands, such as company sales records or family photo albums.
The Anthropic team - a group of big shots from OpenAI - said this won't do. So they spent years researching and finally launched MCP in late 2024. This thing not only allows AI to "see" more data but also ensures safety, preventing bad guys from stealing privacy.
The release of MCP also coincided with Anthropic's highlight moment: In 2024, they received billions of dollars in investment from Google and Amazon, which immediately drew attention to MCP upon its release, like a supernova entering a new world.
Tip 2: MCP is the "savior" of the AI boom, solving a big problem - making AI understand your life better than you.
III. What Can MCP Do? AI Magic That Even Grandpa Can Use
The beauty of MCP is its simplicity, allowing even a technologically illiterate grandpa to feel its benefits. When Anthropic released MCP, they also launched an app called ClaudeDesktop to let everyone experience it directly.
For example, grandpa asks Claude: "What was I going to buy recently?" Previously, Claude might have said, "I have no idea what you're talking about." But with MCP, Claude can connect to grandpa's shopping app through this protocol and immediately tell him he needs to buy a floral jumpsuit - without grandpa lifting a finger!
Grandpa was thrilled and decided to wear it to the next Web3 consensus conference.
Developers can do more with MCP, such as:
--Use simple code (like Python) to let AI connect to company tools;
--Quickly build a smart assistant with ready-made MCP tools;
--Even design new ways for AI to help grandpa plan yoga classes or manage housework, or help grandpa trade crypto.
Anthropic put MCP's code on GitHub, allowing anyone to download and try it, eliminating information gaps and attracting global developers.
Tip 3: MCP is like an "AI magic wand" that lets grandpa enjoy a smart life.
IV. What Will MCP's Future Be Like? The Next Big Event in the AI World?
When MCP was first launched, everyone was guessing: Will it become the "passport" of the AI world? After all, Anthropic is backed by Google and Amazon, and competitors like Microsoft (supporting OpenAI) and Google (with its own Gemini) are also eyeing this field.
Some think MCP might become the "standard configuration" of AI, like WiFi on phones. In the future, developers might use it to create more intelligent tools that even grandpa can use to plan trips, order takeout, or video chat with his grandson.
But others worry: MCP is still new, and there might be safety and compatibility issues. Anthropic promises to continuously improve it, ensuring it's as reliable and awesome as Claude.
Tip 4: MCP might be the future star of AI, but it still needs time to prove itself.
V. How Will MCP Enter the Web3 World? Cold Water into Hot Oil?
Today, AI in Web3 is still hot, but there's no dominant project. Most have dropped 90%, even 99%, which is disappointing. They can be called tools wearing an AI shell, not practical or smart. Big bro says none of them catch his eye.
MCP is different, emphasizing practicality with endless possibilities. Base @base has already provided an MCP Server, and BNB Chain @BNBCHAIN and Solana @solana communities have also provided MCP Servers. MCP becoming a future trend is inevitable. There are rumors that $GOAT, $AI16Z, $ACT plummeted due to MCP's popularity. Just mentioning it without judgment, back to the endless possibilities.
For example:
Grandpa roars and directly enters Web3 from Web2, with AI providing everything he needs in Web3.
Grandpa shouts he wants to buy BTC, and AI immediately buys 21 million $BTC for him.
Grandpa sees a KOL promoting a Token, lets AI check the contract, and if there are no bugs, he invests $20 million, closely watching the top player to prevent being backstabbed, with grandma not even worried.
Tip 5: MCP will change the current AI track in Web3, developing towards more practical directions and providing one-click safe connections between Web2 and Web3.
Epilogue
In the past year, the AI field has changed rapidly. The emergence of MCP has brightened everyone's eyes. Due to my limited imagination, MCP can create infinite possibilities, and I cannot concretize each one. In other words, whatever the readers imagine might be possible.
Although AI sounds profound, I hope this little essay can help everyone, even our grandpa who is still in kindergarten, understand the significance of MCP.
In any case, MCP is still in its early stages, and it can bring us many unknown surprises, which are worth looking forward to!
