On February 21, at the closing ceremony of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) summit held in Miami, USA, Masayoshi Son, the founder and CEO of SoftBank Group, was invited as the closing guest speaker, discussing the future trends of AI and the Stargate project. Despite the host's praise over the years, Masayoshi Son remained humble, admitting that he felt he had not accomplished much and had wasted a lot of time, but still had many dreams to realize.

ToggleStargate will allow explosive growth in AI computing power
Masayoshi Son talked about the Stargate project he had previously announced with US President Donald Trump. He emphasized that this will be the key to changing the speed of AI development. He used simple math to illustrate: "We plan to provide 10 times the number of chips each year, with each chip's computing power increasing 10 times, and the capability of each generation of AI models also increasing 10 times. In other words, the growth in the first cycle will be 1000 times, and then another 1000 times in a year and a half. In just a few years, the intelligence of AI may increase by 1 billion times."
He added that OpenAI's GPT-4 is already able to pass doctoral exams in various fields, including mathematics, physics, law, and medicine. When the host asked, "Now it's smart enough, what about a few years from now? When intelligence becomes 1 billion times, how will humans cope?" Masayoshi Son excitedly stated: "This transformation will be faster and more intense than anyone can imagine!"
Now is the time to go all in, there is no need to fear investment
When it comes to market competition and investment risks, Masayoshi Son's attitude is exceptionally firm. He said that many people are concerned that the $500 billion investment in Stargate is too crazy, but he believes that the GDP growth brought by the AI industry in the future will far exceed this figure. "According to estimates, the AI industry will contribute $15.7 trillion by 2030, which is 5% to 10% of global GDP. If the market size is $9 to $18 trillion per year in the future, then investing a few trillion dollars is nothing."
He gave an example that OpenAI already has an 80% market share in the AGI market, with 400 million active users per week, which has doubled in just a few months. "This is an explosively growing market, and now is not the time to hesitate, but to go all out."
The US leads the world in AI, Europe's restriction on AI development is a wrong choice
When asked whether Stargate will make the AI market closed and allow the US to monopolize the advantage, Masayoshi Son directly stated that all AI innovations currently come from Silicon Valley in the US, Nvidia controls 95% of the AI chip market, and OpenAI and US tech giants dominate AI development, which is a fact.
He also criticized the restrictive policies on AI in some countries, believing that this is self-defeating. "In the past, the Biden administration and some European countries wanted to restrict AI development, which is wrong. China has shown its determination and ability, and this race will not stop. Now is not the time to slow down, but to go all out," Masayoshi Son emphasized.
I am a gambler, and also a dreamer
The well-known Harvard Business Review recently used Masayoshi Son as a case study, summarizing his success philosophy, including "turning adversity into advantage", "persevering to the end", "bridging Eastern and Western cultures", and "bold investment". In response, he laughed and said, "I'm a dreamer, and also a gambler. I've certainly made the wrong investment choices, like WeWork, but I've learned from my mistakes."
He emphasized that when it comes to challenges, he would rather make mistakes because there are too many challenges, than not try because of fear. But if he missed opportunities because he was too timid, that would be the real regret.
AI should become a part of life, rather than restricting it, we should embrace it
When it comes to how young people should face AI in the future, Masayoshi Son shared his own views on educating his children. "My daughter asked me if she should use ChatGPT? I said not only use it, but let AI become a part of their lives."
He further explained that in the past, some places had no electricity, which completely changed their way of life. "Now AI is the new electricity! If AI can expand our intelligence 1 billion times, how can we not use it?" He encouraged young people not to be afraid of AI, but to deeply integrate it and actively learn, making it their own advantage.
In this closing dialogue at the FII summit, Masayoshi Son once again demonstrated his firm belief in bold investment and embracing AI. He emphasized that AI is not just a technology, but an ongoing global transformation. "This is not the time to stop and think, but the time to accelerate forward."
