Odaily reports that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched a new Cryptocurrency Working Group website. According to the website, the Cryptocurrency Working Group aims to clarify the application of federal securities laws in the cryptocurrency asset market and propose practical policy measures to promote innovation and protect investors. The Cryptocurrency Working Group collaborates with Commission staff and the public to develop new approaches to cryptocurrency asset regulation. The Cryptocurrency Working Group will help define clear regulatory boundaries, appropriately distinguish between securities and non-securities, develop customized disclosure frameworks, provide viable registration pathways for cryptocurrency assets and market intermediaries, ensure investors have the information needed to make investment decisions, and ensure enforcement resources are deployed wisely. SEC launches new cryptocurrency working group website

Odaily Odaily report: Landon Zinda has resigned from his position as Policy Director at the cryptocurrency advocacy organization Coin Center and joined the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)'s cryptocurrency working group. In a notice dated February 4, Acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda stated that Zinda has joined the Commission as his legal counsel and senior advisor to the cryptocurrency working group. The former Coin Center director will join the working group led by Commissioner Hester Peirce, working alongside Chief of Staff Richard Gabbert and Chief Policy Advisor Taylor Asher.

Acting SEC Chairman Appoints Former Coin Center Director to Cryptocurrency Working Group

Odaily reported that Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer of Bitwise, stated that the US regulatory authorities may approve up to five different digital asset spot ETFs this year. However, he said that the SEC needs to cross the regulatory "Rubicon" to achieve this goal. Hougan expressed doubts about the approval of the MELANIA-related application, but believes that other cryptocurrencies closer to commodities may have a chance. He said that if they can cross that hurdle, the floodgates will open, and it will not be a small crack. He also mentioned that in many markets such as Germany and Switzerland, regulators have found that they can approve spot cryptocurrency ETFs without a regulated futures market, other than Bitcoin and Ethereum. In the US, if a precedent can be set, this will still be a big deal, and he believes there will be many opportunities if they can meet the new standards.

Previously, Tuttle Capital had submitted applications to the US SEC for 10 leveraged cryptocurrency asset ETFs, including several Meme coin products and assets that have not yet launched ETPs, as well as the first US ETP tracking Chainlink, Cardano, Polkadot, BNP, and MELANIA. In addition, Bitwise has submitted an S-1 filing for a Dogecoin ETF to the US SEC, and listed Coinbase Custody as the proposed custodian for the spot Dogecoin ETF. However, Bitwise's filing did not specify the proposed fees and ticker symbol of the ETF, nor did it specify which securities exchange it would list on if approved.
